Mind Over Monday

Ever have those Monday Blues? Well, I guess it doesn’t always just happen on Mondays but I often find myself complaining about little things or dreading the day ahead because of something I might not be looking forward to doing. This weekend, most likely after a compliant I was making, my brother showed me Gary’s video. I’ve read his book, Crush It, so I was interested to see what sort of video my brother had for me. 

Getting back to Monday though…Why is it that we dread the Monday morning and you don’t often see someone on Sunday night post TGIM (Thank God It’s Monday)? I feel society has created this notion that we must dread work, and only enjoy our lives on the weekends. Why is that? I don’t believe in the false reality that we should love every minute of our careers because there will always be problems to solve and issues to resolve but we need to turn our thoughts around and embrace it all. I am sure we have all heard someone tell us, “do what you love, love what you do”, so let’s do it. Take the challenges you will face in the morning head on and own it!

Negativity is something that can very easily get us down, myself included. We become encapsulated by some small, ultimately meaningless, thing but what, at the time, seems to be the end of the world. Of course life is going to get us down, but we all need to take a step back and see the big picture. I am learning to ask myself these two simple questions:
-is it something I have control over?
-if I complain about it will it change?

Often times we blow things out of proportion and get out knickers in a twist over things that are out of our control.  Let’s try and forget about those meaningless bothers and focus on crushing Monday.  Wake up, appreciate what you have, be thankful to be alive and healthy, and go in to your day with the mindset that you can tackle whatever is thrown at you.

Our minds are the most powerful weapons in our bodies and can either make or break our day, week, or even the rest of our lives.  Make yourself aware of the negativity regardless of what day of the week it is and perhaps replace those thoughts with some positive affirmations.  Take time out of your day to do something that gives you enjoyment, whether it is a walk, a workout, reading a book or watching your favourite TV show.  Life is going to throw us curveballs, but it is a test to see who can bounce back stronger, more powerful, and with positivity.  

We have two options to live our lives:  glass half full or glass half empty.  Next time you feel like Monday’s got you down, take a look at your glass and make sure it is half full.
