Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

Mother’s Day can be a joy for some and a hard time for others.  Not everyone is as fortunate as me – or others – to have a great relationship with not only our mothers but other influential females too. I am forever thankful for all of the positive females I have in my life.  My mom, aunts, cousins, Grandma, Omi, and female friends have all shaped me into the woman I am today.  I’ve had the pleasure of spending not only today, but the past week with my mom in England, witnessing her not only do motherly duties, but grandmotherly duties on top of that!  Today, my blog post is in honour of my mom - for all that she does not only for me, but for my dad and brothers, her family, friends, and even strangers.

Mom, I can’t thank you enough for all of the sacrifices you have made over the years and continue to make for us. You chose to give up your career to take on the role of mother, the one job that has no expiry date, no retirement, and no hours off.  You’ve driven (and raced) me to countless dance and sports practices, prepared meals, volunteered at school, and often times ran like a chicken with your head cut off to ensure we were happy.  You buy 3 different kinds of snacks to make sure everyone gets something they like.  You stock up on candy when kids come to our house to make sure they are happy… (and now I know why you are everyone’s favourite!)  You drive me wherever I need to go.  I’ve watched you help your family in times of need, and I’ve even seen you help those who are strangers, struggling and needing hope.

Mom, you do this all better than anyone else I have ever witnessed.   You do it all without ever complaining, usually before anyone asks, putting everyone else’s needs above your own. You learned from an amazing role model, Omi; and it was truly special to see you play the role as Omi this week with your very special grandson, Samuel.

I wish you peace, love and happiness, like you continually wish for when asked every holiday.  But, what I wish more is that you learn to take a step back, be proud of the children you raised, and remember that you have taught us well.  It is your turn to take time for yourself, try new things, relax, and not wait on everyone else.  You deserve it more than anyone I know.  We love you and appreciate the support more than we will ever be able to display.  But now, it is your time to enjoy all that you deserve.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the powerful females out there, regardless of your situation or circumstance.  You are all valued more than you will ever know.

Be fierce.  Be strong.  Be vibrant.
